Project Management Office in an Agile environment 1.0 Introduction : Project Management Office (PMO) and Agile method are highly reputable terms in many organizations, especially in their IT projects. The PMO is a group of people or committee within an organization that is responsible to define and maintain standards and practices for traditional project management. The ultimate objective for the PMO is to gain the benefits that are derived from applying Project Management (PM) methods, practices and policies. Thus, the PMO over time will become the origin for documentation, guidance and metrics regarding to any practices that are involved in managing projects within the organization, as well as it will be the communication channel that†¦show more content†¦In other words, how can PMO and agile live together in an organization? Therefore, the target of this paper is to address the issues and clarify the relationship between the PMO and Agile methodology. 2.0 Issue Details: 2.1 Description: Nowadays, the economy evolves rapidly and levels of competition force companies to adopt new approaches In order to keep up with market changes. Many large and medium scale companies have multiple projects and programs in progress, and they are using PMO as an essential part to apply to project management practices. Over time, many companies with long histories of successful PMO and project management practices may want to accelerate their project performance and adopt Agile as a new approach for their projects. As a result, this change can play an important role to raise different type of problems and difficulties between the existing PMO and Agile development team (Agile developers). According to Visitacion, in her article â€Å"The PMO in an agile world: Can’t we all just get along?† She states that â€Å"Developers want as little process as possible, while PMOs appear to thrive on it. Developers consider PMOs to be bureaucratic impediments to their creativity, while PMOs see developers as undisciplined. Project managers, attempting to satisfy both the development team and the PMO, get caught in the crosshairs.
